Designed and built in-house, the latest Purdey rifle demonstrates world-leading innovation.

“For the first time in gun-making history, Purdey is leading the way by bringing the design and production of our Bolt-Action Rifle receivers in-house. And we have two new exciting pending patents, as part of the enhanced design. It’s a particularly special moment, highlighting our commitment to honouring innovation while upholding heritage in everything we do.” – Dan Jago, Purdey Chairman & CEO
Purdey’s history with rifles goes back to its founder, James Purdey, who was the first gunmaker to supply both a rifle and pistol fitted with telescope-sights, in 1842. Although bolt-actions were sold at Audley House in the 1890s, it was not until 1931 that the Purdey-Mauser model was first launched. Originally only available in 7x57 and .404, this quickly expanded to cover a far wider range of calibres.

In more recent years, to meet the demands of those looking for bolt-actions with a higher standard of accuracy, the Purdey Bolt-Action was redesigned. At its core is a Titanium chassis that both embeds the action and supports the forestock, which allows the barrel to be free-floated, creating a rifle that is capable of sub-MOA accuracy. This was extremely well-received when it launched in 2017; it was described at the time by one respected field sports critic as: “The most accurate best London rifle I have ever shot.”
Due to this success, we have now brought the design and manufacture of the action fully in-house – the first time in the history of Purdey. The latest model sees a refinement of the action integration with the chassis and further improvements in accuracy, while retaining the classic aesthetics of the original Purdey Bolt-Action stock.

We have two exciting patents pending for new innovations on the Bolt-Action Rifle. The first is a concealed and pinless fixing of the bottom metal to the receiver, which creates a seamless finish, an uninterrupted canvas for engraving artistry, protects the fixing pins from dust and moisture to ensure longevity and reliability, and reduces the risk of any damage to engraving during the pin removal.
The second pending patent is for the innovative front scope mount cap: designed to protect the pocket from dust, ensure secure engagement without rattling or movement, and provide further surface potential for embellishment and customisation. The overall result is one which completely lives up to the title of ‘Best London Rifle’ in every sense.

“Although we have been building bolt-action rifles for over 90 years, this is a very exciting and big step forward for all the team here at Purdey. I am very proud to be part of this moment alongside our great factory team.” – Andrew Ambrose, Purdey Director of Gun Sales
