Apprenticeship Applications

Celebrating craftsmanship and sharing skills is integral to Purdey and has been from the start. Today, our apprenticeship scheme is the best of the best, highly respected, extremely thorough and enjoyable too. It takes place over a five-year period, in which you’ll specialise meticulously in one area of gun craft – whether stockmaking, finishing, engraving, actioning, or elsewhere in the factory depending on your skills and interests – learning from our master craftspeople, before presenting your work to the judging panel and receiving your certificate. From there, many of those who start out as apprentices with Purdey go on to become masters themselves,
showing the quality of our training and potential for longevity in the industry.

"When thinking about my career I was originally contemplating doing a college course in Engineering as I always had an interest in how things were made. An opportunity presented itself at Purdey and I decided to take this chance, and I have not looked back. As someone who had no previous knowledge of the gun trade prior to starting my apprenticeship, it was really exciting to learn about the mechanics of guns and the shooting world as a whole. I have learnt so many different skills in my time with Purdey, from hand filing through to working on milling machines. Throughout my five-year apprenticeship there have been many helpful people who have championed me to be successful along the way. I know am always supported and work with a great team. We get to go shooting together and other team bonding experiences. I have now been promoted to Junior Craftsman. I know I could not imagine doing anything else.

I am really excited for my future with Purdey."
