Roving Gun

Roving Gun

So, the new season has started, which is always cause for celebration and this year it feels like cause for even greater celebration - to hear and see the shooting world back up and running is such great news.

August has been a another busy month here at the Shooting School, with the team hosting our annual Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) registered shoot. Working withing the guidelines issued by the CPSA we were delighted to welcome nearly 100 competitors who enjoyed a brilliant and challenging course, not to mention the scorching heat. Congratulations to Paul Batchelor for his impressive victory with a staggering 94 out of 100!

Elsewhere on the grounds the instructors have been exceptionally busy with lessons, especially Grouse lessons. It is clear that our three Grouse Butts (with over 20 traps) have proved to be more popular then ever with the Royal Berkshire Grouse Challenge attracting a great number of entries. I sound like a scratched record but if you are lucky enough to be heading to the Moors please do practice beforehand. It really does make such a difference to your day.

So, what of the shooting season? We have been delighted to see how shoots have worked so hard to allow the days to go ahead but do so within all guidelines. Yes, there are some changes to how days used to be run but these changes have worked and will continue to do so, just as long as everybody involved in a day plays their part. The Sporting Agency have hosted a number of days on the Moors and have seen some wonderful sport. Whilst it will not be a vintage year for Grouse there is still some good shooting to be had, so do contact Gordon or Ben if you are interested. Equally, we are still taking bookings for full teams and our Roving Days.

Talking of Roving Days, we have seen huge demand for our Really Wild Roving Days and, thanks to the support from our estates, we are able to still offer a number of dates for full teams and single guns to join us for a Really Wild Clay day. Anybody interested should please contact Katie who will be able to help book your day.

Equally keen to help with any enquiries you may have are Alastair and Mikey in the Gun Room and Jess in the Country Store. We are as well stocked as ever, as you can see here, and so with many people’s first day approaching, be sure to drop in or visit us online to make sure you have everything ready. With this in mind we are excited to announce our Summer Sale and Open Day. The sale starts on Friday 11th September with the open day being run, outdoors on the lawn, on Saturday 12th September. There will be some wonderful deals to be found and some brilliant exhibitors have agreed to join us, so do come and join in the fun.

In finishing, I offer my now customary but genuine thanks to all of our clients who have been and continue to be, so supportive of the RBSS. I also want to thank the brilliant Team who have continued to work so hard to ensure we offer both the best service and experience possible It just remains for me to wish everybody a very safe and enjoyable start to the season.

P.S.... keep your eyes on our website and social media to learn more about an exciting competition starting in September…”The Purdey Cup

Best wishes
