In what’s becoming one of our favourite annual traditions, this year marks the third edition of The Purdey Post in print. Our focus for this issue is to celebrate the culture of the British countryside, craftsmanship and the people who have shaped Purdey past, present and future. These are all subjects we’ll be happily discussing as we showcase the range of Purdey guns and rifles at Dallas Safari Club, Atlanta this weekend (9th to 12th January) – for more information, or to book an in-person appointment with our team, get in touch here.
So, what can you expect in this year’s print Post? We follow the journey from apprentice to master craftsman in the Purdey workshop; take a closer look at our latest Woodward model and 140-year-old Sidelock Double Rifle; and discuss the fine balance between modern tech and tradition, examining the trajectory of British gunmaking and our role within it.
Outside of the factory, stepping into the fresh air is where Purdey comes to life. One out of practice gun shares the thrill of reconnecting with shooting on one of our ‘Really Wild’ days; and there’s a run down of the brilliant shoot days on offer at Purdey at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School and with our Sporting Agency to tempt you to book in for the year ahead.
Tips on how to dress in the field come directly from The Rake’s style savvy Tom Chamberlin. We trace the stories of knitwear traditions around the British Isles, bringing newfound depth to your Aran and Guernsey jumpers. Meanwhile explorer Andy Torbet sums up exactly why the right kit makes all the difference as he puts a team favourite, the Technical Yorkshire Field Coat, to the test in slightly more extreme conditions that we have braved ourselves.
The centrefold of the paper details the full complement of Purdey guns and rifles; and some sage advice by Tom and Jim Purdey from back in the day concludes this year’s edition nicely.
You’ll find beautiful print copies of The Purdey Post in our boutique at Audley House (and at DSC Atlanta); or for those who would like to read digitally, it’s available for you to download now at the link below.
